EMBRACE PLASTIC-FREE JULY WITH SPLASH

More than No Shave November or any other trend out there, going plastic-free might just be the hardest challenge yet. Eliminating single-use plastic is a lifestyle shift that requires conscious and continuous effort day in and day out. But this challenge doesn’t have to be done alone. For years now, through our constant innovation and R&D efforts, we have managed to move the needle when it comes to minimizing plastic and plastic components from our production and product lifecycle. This month, we invite you to dive into our world of eco-friendly practices and commit to creating a cleaner, greener planet with Splash.

Splash’s Zero Plastic Initiative

At Splash, the love for fashion is not greater than the love for our oceans. Did you know, every year plastic waste is entering our oceans at an unprecedented rate of over 8 million metric tons? That’s why, we eliminated single-use plastic from our shopping bags and replaced them with biodegradable, compostable bags.  By replacing our yearly use of 80 million plastic bags with biobased compostable bags, we have reduced our material carbon footprint by approximately 300 tons annually.

This is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to our Zero plastic initiative, Splash aims to reduce single-use plastic usage not only in our packaging, but at every level of the product lifecycle, and since 2018, we have ramped up our efforts to accelerate the replacement of plastic with eco-friendly alternatives.

Splash’s biodegradable compostable packaging: Leave the guilt at the door when you shop at Splash this July and throughout the year. Our bags are made from corn starch that disintegrates within 180 days and breaks down into organic matter. Unlike plastic which pollutes landfills, these biodegradable alternatives become nutrients to the soil. In the period 2018 -2019, Splash replaced all plastic shopping bags with Oxo biodegradable bags.

Converted all our plastic tags to FSC-certified paper tags: During 2019-2020, we replaced all our plastic garment tags with FSC-certified paper tags. By choosing FSC-certified products, we adhere to the highest standards of sustainability, with the paper tags sourced from responsible harvesting, so there is no net loss of forest over time.

While these two standout initiatives have helped us change the narrative about the growing plastic problem in fashion, this is only the beginning. For, it is not enough to do good for the future, we also need to make amends with the past – so, we continue to weave sustainability into every fabric of our business and help with eliminating the existing plastic problem by choosing recycled materials in our clothes. These materials, such as recycled polyester and recycled nylon use plastic waste instead of virgin materials like petroleum. This will help divert the plastic waste from landfills and extend their useful life.

Small Changes, Big Impact

Plastic-Free July is a powerful reminder that small, consistent actions can create a wave of change. By making conscious choices and embracing sustainable habits, we can protect our planet and ensure a secure future for all. At Splash, we’re committed to supporting you every step of the way. Let’s turn the tide against plastic pollution together.
