Sophisticated style for Ramadan

The holy month of Ramadan has finally knocked on our doors and we are welcoming it with open arms. In this religious month, Muslims are known to be devoting their time to God by fasting during the day, but there are social aspects to Ramadan and we have insights about how to dress appropriately and fashionably.

Your activities this month may include a fancy iftar meal at a friend's place or at a posh restaurant with an Arab theme. It’s important to dress respectfully and keep everything modest – which doesn’t mean you have to go with a boring look. Long, flowy dresses and kaftans, some of which are colourful and vibrant, are popular choices during Ramadan. Splash has recently been stocked with several styles of kaftans that are excellent choices for gatherings in homes or restaurants.

For the special occasions, however, some gorgeous, crystalized dresses are available, and I believe they go beautifully with the month’s clothing theme. The dresses are very stylish, though, and they rock the kaftan vibe with a modern element.

Daywear for Ramadan changes, too; it’s all the more appropriate for women to wear loose-fitting clothing that covers the knees and the shoulders. I managed to pick up this gorgeous maxi skirt, which can be matched with all kinds of shirts and blazers to create fashionable looks with a tone of modesty. Splash also has a number of maxi skirts and dresses in an abundant choice of colours.

Ramadan Kareem to all the loyal Splash followers; I’ll be back soon with another collection of style posts, but ‘til then you can stay in the news loop with updates about Dubai and the world of fashion via my blog: www.saraindubai.blogspot.com.
